Five of seven surfaces answer in full. RBC publishes fees, card rates, insurance premiums and eligibility rules as readable text, and the mortgage rate table is built and ready for its figures.
RBC posts an Agent Readiness Score of 72 out of 100 in the AI Compass Canada July 2026 Index and leads the Canadian banks. The score splits into Technical Readiness at 34/50 and Content Architecture at 38/50. Chequing, savings, cards, investing and insurance all publish price and eligibility as text. Mortgages and personal loans ship their structure, and publishing the figures into those two pages is what stands between 72 and the eighties.
An agent reading rbcroyalbank.com finds an open door and a well built house. The robots file allows every product path, no AI crawler is named or throttled, and GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, CCBot and Bytespider each returned a clean 200 on the personal banking root.
What follows is the strongest content set among the Canadian banks. Advantage Banking serves the $12.95 monthly fee, the $0 student rate, the $8.95 seniors rebate and the fee schedule beneath. The Avion Visa Infinite serves a $120 annual fee, a 20.99% purchase rate, a 22.99% cash advance rate and the exact income test, then repeats all of it in CreditCard schema.
Insurance is the standout. HomeProtector arrives as three parsable tables of age-banded premiums per $1,000 of balance, from $0.10 at age 18 to $2.77 joint at 69, with a worked example an agent can quote directly. The TFSA page names the age of majority province by province.
The mortgage rates page is where the next points sit. It ships 91 rate spans ready for their values, and the extracted text reads “5 Year Fixed Closed % %”. The personal loan page publishes its terms and is ready for a stated cost. Two products, one rendering decision.
One flagship product was selected for each personal banking sub-category on the rbcroyalbank.com root, matching the product RBC itself features first. Each surface was read from the server response, without a browser session.
Insurance premiums arrive as complete age-banded tables. HomeProtector serves “18-30 $0.10 $0.17 ... 66-69 $1.63 $2.77” per $1,000 of balance, plus the worked example “($200,000 ÷ $1,000) x $0.24 = $48 per month”.
Everyday banking fees are fully published. Advantage Banking serves “Monthly fee $12.95”, “full-time students and anyone 24 or younger $0”, “Seniors Rebate $8.95”, “Bank drafts $9.95 each” and “Overdraft protection $5/month”.
The card surface carries price, eligibility and schema. Avion Visa Infinite serves “Annual Fee $120”, “Purchase Rate 20.99%”, “Cash Advance Rate 22.99%”, “A minimum personal income of $60,000 or a minimum household income of $100,000”, and JSON-LD with “annualPercentageRate”: “20.99”.
Eligibility names ages, provinces and residency tests. The TFSA page serves “Any Canadian resident with a Social Insurance Number who has reached the age of majority (18 or 19, depending on the province)” and lists the seven jurisdictions where 19 applies.
The mortgage rate spans are ready for their figures. The served HTML holds 91 rate spans, the extracted text reads “5 Year Fixed Closed % %”, and the headline reads “Today’s Royal Bank of Canada Prime Rate %”. GPTBot receives the identical page, so one render change reaches every agent at once.
The personal loan page is ready for a stated borrowing cost. The prime rate is present today, and adding an APR range, minimum and maximum loan amounts and a fee schedule answers the question a borrower asks first.
One disclosure is ready to be filled. Disclaimer 6 renders as “On , the Royal Bank Prime Rate was .” and resolving both fields carries the rate condition with the offer.
Discovery has room to grow. All three llms.txt paths return 404 today, the robots file is ready for a Sitemap line, and the sitemap that exists lists all 846 URLs under http, so moving them to https reaches canonical URLs in one hop.
The encouraging read: RBC already has five surfaces in the leading band to model from. Extending that publishing pattern to mortgages and personal loans converts existing content into agent-readable answers without a redesign.
An agent asked what an RBC five year fixed mortgage costs today reads a percent sign waiting for its number.
RBC leads the Canadian banks and sits above the strongest US bank in the published index. The anchors below place it within reach of the leading band on a single rendering change. Scores shown are the nearest neighbours in the July 2026 Canadian field.
Every Agent Readiness Score splits into Technical Readiness and Content Architecture. The two halves point to different teams and different timelines.
Sequencing, effort estimates and the surface-by-surface build order sit in the full engagement plan. Item one carries the largest share of the available lift.
Populate the 91 rate spans in the initial response so term, special offer, APR and prime rate ship with the page. This single change moves the lowest scoring surface by more than thirty points.
Add a stated APR range, minimum and maximum amounts and any fees, and fill the date and rate fields in Disclaimer 6.
List 60 to 100 core personal banking pages, each with a line that names the product and its headline figure.
Add a Sitemap line to robots.txt and rewrite all 846 entries from http to https so crawlers reach canonical URLs in one hop.
The direction of travel favours RBC. Content quality across five surfaces is the hardest part to build and it is already built.
RBC has already done the expensive work. Publishing two rate tables into the served page is what stands between 72 and the leading band.
AI Compass measures what an AI agent receives when it visits a financial institution website on a customer’s behalf. It reads the served response the way an agent does, without a browser session, without scripts, and without a human clicking to reveal a value.
Each product surface earns a score out of 100, built from Technical Readiness out of 50 and Content Architecture out of 50. The institution score is the average across the surfaces reviewed, up to seven.
Sub-categories come from the personal banking navigation on each brand’s Canadian root. Within each one, the flagship is the product the institution itself features first. Brands with fewer product lines are scored on the surfaces they actually sell, so a focused brand is measured on quality rather than on breadth.
Pages were read on 30 July 2026. Rates, bonus offers and terms move, and scores describe what each site served on that date. Where a site offers more than one language, the version served by default to a request with no language preference was used.
Scores come from observed page behaviour alone. No institution reviews or approves a score before publication, and every brand is measured against the same rubric. Outlier results are verified against a second independent retrieval pass before publication.
The score covers the public marketing site. Logged-in banking, the mobile app and the branch experience sit outside it. A site can score well here and still have work to do inside the login, and the reverse holds too.
RBC Royal Bank carries an AI Compass Agent Readiness Score of 72 out of 100 in the July 2026 Canada Index. That is the sum of Technical Readiness (34/50) and Content Architecture (38/50), scored across 7 product surfaces and read from the server response on 30 July 2026.
Each product surface earns a score out of 100, built from Technical Readiness out of 50 and Content Architecture out of 50. Technical Readiness covers crawler permission, machine-readable discovery, server-side completeness, retrievability and disclosure availability. Content Architecture covers price in text, eligibility in text, comparison structure, question coverage and plain answers. The institution score is the average across the surfaces reviewed. RBC sits at 34 on Technical Readiness and 38 on Content Architecture.
The strongest surface is Insurance at 85, with Credit cards at 83 close behind. The next points sit on the mortgage and personal loan pages, where the rate structure already ships and the figures are ready to be rendered server side.
Canada scores are refreshed each edition of the AI Compass Index, and a deep dive is refreshed whenever a brand ships a major site or content change. The July 2026 edition reads the served response on 30 July 2026. Subscribe at competitive-compass.com to get the next refresh.
